Organ demonstration recital by Rupert Jeffcoat
Saturday 28 March 3.30-5.30 pm
In a change to previous publicity, we are delighted to welcome distinguished composer, music director and organist Rupert
Jeffcoat to demonstrate the quality and versatility of our historic church organ. At age 26 Rupert became Director of Music at Coventry Cathedral and Director of Music. While there, he introduced repertoire from 10 centuries and in 20 languages into its liturgies, Rupert took the Cathedral choir on tours to Japan, Russia and South Africa. Rupert then moved Australia where he was Director of Music and Organist at Brisbane Cathedral. There he re-invigorated the music programme and ensured the restoration of its fine organ. Rupert is well-known as an accompanist and has given hundreds of recitals in the UK and abroad as a soloist. In addition, he has composed church music that has been performed on six continents.
For this recital Rupert has selected a varied programme of music from across six centuries. Composers
include Vincent Lübeck , William Byrd, JS Bach, Richard Wagner, Giaochino Rossini, Scott Joplin and R Vaughan Williams.
Doors will open at 3pm and light refreshments served at the end of a one-hour concert.
Entry is free but donations are welcome. These will kick-start an Organ Fund to maintain the instrument and fully restore it in about 20 years’ time.
