Intercessions 9 May 2021

Intercessions for Sunday 9 May 2021

Psalm 98 v2: ‘The Lord has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations.’

Heavenly Father, thank you that your message of salvation is for all people and that we belong to a world-wide church.  Thank you that your Holy Spirit continues to work throughout the world in ways that amaze and astonish us.

Father, we pray for your church in parts of the world where there is war, famine, disease and persecution.  We ask you to strengthen and inspire your people to carry the good news of your salvation to their communities.

In a moment’s silence we name before you a part of the world which is particularly on our heart at this time.

Lord in your mercy:

Hear our prayer.

Father, we pray for our link missionaries, Ben & Anne Sibthorpe in Northern Australia and Daniel and Sarah Brito Medeiros in Recife, Brazil.  We thank you for them and ask that you will continue to bless others through them and keep them and their families safe.

As Daniel and Sarah asked in their recent prayer letter, we pray for Brazil, for the growing number of people living in poverty and who do not have enough to eat, asking that the Church might know how to respond to this need.

Lord in your mercy:

Hear our prayer.

Father, we continue to pray for countries struggling to cope with the impact of Coronavirus.  We think particularly of India, asking that they will receive the supplies of oxygen and medical equipment that they need.  We pray for wisdom for those in government, that they might be able to put in place measures to bring down the spread of infection.  We ask for strength for those working in hospitals overwhelmed by demand, healing for those who are sick, peace for those who are afraid for themselves or their relatives, and comfort for those who have lost loved ones.

Lord in your mercy:

Hear our prayer.

Here in the UK we pray for those taking up new positions of responsibility following elections this week.  We pray for those in government at all levels, from national parliaments and assemblies, and county councils to town and parish councils.   Grant them wisdom, insight and compassion as they undertake their duties and a desire to work for the common good.

We pray too for our PCC following our Annual Church meeting.  Please bless and inspire them as they lead your church in this place.

Lord in your mercy:

Hear our prayer.

Loving Father, we thank you for your love for each one of us.  We also thank you for our families and friends and our church family here at All Saints.  Please increase our love for you and for each other.

We pray for our local community and lift before you now those who particularly need to know your love at this time.  We ask for healing for those who are sick, in body, mind or spirit,  relief for those who are in pain and comfort for those who mourn.

In a moment’s silence we name before you those who are known to us.

Merciful Father:

Accept these prayers for the sake of your son, our saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.
