Intercessions Sunday 7th March 2021
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Let us pray
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. Romans 13
Almighty God we pray for our government and all in authority remembering especially at this time the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the Chancellor Rushi Sunak and the Health Minister Matt Hancock as well as all those in the civil service. Please grant them wisdom and strength for all that they need to deal with including the pandemic, the economy and managing Brexit.
When King Solomon was asked what he wanted at the start of his reign he replied, “give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong.” 1 Kings 3:9
Heavenly King, we pray today for our royal family. We thank God for the witness and faith of our Queen and ask that you would be with her husband Prince Philip in hospital. We pray for the work of the Princes Trust across the country and today we remember especially the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, please give them wisdom and a sense of your peace.
See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the Lord my God commanded me … Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Deuteronomy 4
Holy Spirit our teacher, we pray for the schools and colleges as they return to their buildings this week. Please bless, strengthen and uphold the teachers and staff, enable the children and young people to re-establish friendships and all to feel safe. We pray for the collective worship and open the book videos that go into schools week by week and ask that those who watch may encounter you.
In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. Philippians 1:4-5
Christ our Saviour we pray for those with whom we partner in mission. We remember today the work of the Sibthorpes with MAF in Northern Australia and the Brito Medeiros family in Brazil. We thank you that Sarah and Daniel are still able to work with the girls and their families in Recife and we give thanks for the lady who gave her life to the Lord recently.
We thank you for the Alpha course that we have been able to do with Pattern Church and pray for all who have attended and this weekend as they have held a Holy Spirit day, we pray that they would encounter you in new ways.
Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray… pray for each other. James 5
Loving Father, we know so many people in need at the moment. We think of those whose work feels unsafe because of the virus, for those who feel trapped because they cannot leave their homes, and those who have lost work and businesses. We pray for those whose mental health is suffering and those with physical health needs. We pray for the lonely, the ill and the bereaved. In a moment of quiet let us pray for individuals known to us in our hearts.
Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
